IS YOUR SKIN READY? SPRING SKINCARE TIPS
Spring Skincare. Winter is the harshest to the skin. Low temperatures, low humidity and wind coupled with heat indoors can wreak havoc on your skin. Researchers from Japan investigated the influence of seasonal changes on the skin of the cheeks and anterior forearm during the late months of winter and summer. The results of the study indicate that the natural barrier of the epidermis during winter is more impaired on the cheeks. Furthermore, the turnover of the epidermis of the cheeks was enhanced during winter along with higher surface temperature and redness. Researchers concluded that the exposed skin on the face becomes more irritable during winter due to the poor barrier function.
Let’s see some useful tips about your Spring skincare, which is essential to prepare perfectly your face and body for the next season.
Changes in the Spring skincare routine should include opting for lightweight moisturizers. Avoid heavy creams and consider using milk, lotions and gels. Creams containing ingredients like glycerin, lanolin, or petrolatum are too greasy for Spring and Summer. Instead, use products with lactic acid, glycolic acid, Aloe Vera, or jojoba. Which type of the moisturizer you will choose depends on the type of your skin. For example, jojoba oil is excellent for dry and damaged skin, while Aloe Vera is a good option for oily skin since it contains salicylic acid with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
☆ Rejuvenation Treatments
Even though exfoliation is recommended all year around, visiting a skin rejuvenation clinic for a chemical peel treatment before Spring comes will improve the look and the feel of the skin better than any other type of mechanical exfoliation. In the treatment, a chemical solution is applied on the face peeling off the outer layers of the skin. Chemical peels can be divided into superficial, medium and deep and there are also different types of exfoliants, including alpha hydroxy acid, beta hydroxy acid, phenol, salicylic acid, retinoic acid, glycolic and lactic acid. If you want to go easy on yourself and take a less invasive approach (and you probably should do that first), try the fraxel laser treatment. It uses “fractionated” laser technology to deliver laser energy to the skin and helps the rejuvenation process.
☆ Preparing for hair removal
A light body scrub 24 hours to 48 hours before hair removal removes dead skin cells making waxing, or any other treatment easier and safer. Ideally for your Spring skincare, you should exfoliate several days before the treatment. You can use gentle homemade body scrubs made with salt, or sugar. In addition, moisturize after applying a body scrub. However, scrub gently and do not exfoliate, nor apply a moisturizer on the day of the hair removal session. Finally, do not use retinol-based products 10 days before waxing as it can lead to injury.
The same way you change a moisturizer, you should consider more lightweight foundation in Spring and Summer. Look for so-called foundation alternatives, such as a tinted moisturizer, powder, or a BB cream. As your skin needs less moisture during warmer months, you will need less coverage and these alternatives are perfect for it. Additionally, tinted moisturizers and BB creams usually contain an SPF factor and hydrating ingredients. Know your skin texture in order to choose the proper foundation for your skin type. Powder foundation is recommended for oily skin as it can combats shine on the face, while liquid foundation is for dry and normal skin.
☆ Makeup trends
For this Spring, apple red is the main colour for the lips. Lightweight foundation, several coats of mascara and red lipstick is all you need. Or, you can wear blue eye makeup along with nude lips. Bronze eyeshadow is another makeup trend for 2016. Pink and peach shades can also be seen on runways this spring. Designers and makeup artists especially love pink as it is flattering on all skin complexions.
Spring is knocking on our doors and our skin is here to remind us of it. For flawless and younger looking skin, beauty routines should be adapted to every season, including Spring skincare.
