HOW TO BE SOCIAL AND FIT
If you’ve made a decision to get healthy, you’ve done half of the work. The other half consists of finding the right workout and diet plan and sticking to it (which may be the hardest part of the whole process). However, you can still be social and fit, have dinners with friends, go to parties and have a great time. Here’s how.
Going to a party
Staying on the right track and making healthy choices can be super hard when there are people around you indulging in unhealthy behavior wherever you look. However, you can still have an amazing time, even if you don’t overindulge. One thing that might help you is to keep a list of reasons why you want to get fit. Every time you need a reminder and when you’re having a hard time, you can glance at your list and be reassured. You can also try to avoid the snack bar. Have a proper dinner before you leave the house, so that you’re not starving and ready to break your diet for a few chips. You can also make better drink choices. For instance, a glass of Long Island Ice Tea has a whopping 780 calories, so choose your poison carefully!
Going to a restaurant
It’s really hard to eat healthy when you’re surrounded by all sorts of tasty restaurant food just calling out to you from the pages of your menu. In order to be social and fit, when you’re at home, you can practice the “out of sight, out of mind” technique, but there’s no way to avoid temptation at a public place. However, remember your goal and don’t let go! Every restaurant, even the unhealthiest one, has meal options that are not so bad for you. Look for meals with good fats and fewer carbs, and you’ll be alright. Another thing you can do is eat just a half of your portion, and take the rest to go. This way, you’ll avoid overeating and you’ll still get to enjoy the full portion.
Going to a corporate event (How to Be Social and Fit)
Corporate events usually have plates and plates of great-looking mini foods. Who can resist a tiny hamburger, a few pigs in a blanket or some tasty fried spring rolls, especially when accompanied with some dip? However, that’s no reason to miss that corporate even that can advance your career and bring you closer with your work partners. There are usually some vegan and vegetarian options that are sometimes a much better choice than a pastry-wrapped hot dog. You can also go steady with alcohol. Getting drunk at a corporate event is not a good look for anyone and it can leave a stain on your professional career. So, going sober is a win-win situation. You’ll look more professional amongst your colleagues and stay on track with your fitness goals.
Throwing your own party
When you’re throwing your own party, you can be the boss of your menu. You can tailor it however you like! However, don’t just think about yourself. Other people might not follow any diets and strict workout plans and they can eat and drink whatever they choose. Some classic party food options are chips, dips, mini hot dogs, potato wedges, sausage rolls or mini pies, and none of these are exactly low-calorie. Luckily, you can hire a catering service that makes food you can eat. These days, there are a lot of companies specializing in gluten free, dairy free, vegan and other healthy regimens, so you’ll have plenty to choose from. You can also provide some low-cal alcohol and have plenty of water on hand.
Here is some good news—staying fit while traveling is easier than it sounds! If you didn’t get to do your daily workout before you departed for the airport, you can easily have your workout there. Being social and fit on your travels means taking a brisk walk around the terminals or use your heavy bag to do some lifting. You can also pack things that will keep you fit. Bring your workout clothes and some light equipment. This way, when you arrive at your destination, you’ll be able to work out just like at home. You can also prepare in advance, and scope out the fitness centers, free workout programs and healthy restaurants.
